Hopes and Dreams creates and delivers long-term self-sustainable solutions to directly reduce poverty. We achieve this is by working with our in-country partners, who are grassroots organisations; usually Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) who work amongst the local communities – they understand the people and know their needs.

Our in-country partners undertake the day-to-day activities of the project and oversee the implementation or program. In return we offer financial support, assistance with planning, budgeting, governance and overall project management. Hopes and Dreams’s partners are recognised and respected locally. We take the time to understand what’s important to our beneficiaries; their needs, wants and aspirations.

We promote ownership of the community development projects by engaging key members of the community, (e.g. receive appropriate authority from village leadership) in the decision-making process at all phases of the project. We focus on empowering and equipping the poor. We do not give handouts, we teach them how, so they can be self-reliant.

For our water projects, we provide end-to-end training from equipment repairs and maintenance through to hygiene education, and then we return 6 months later to review the impact of our training.

For our Micro Enterprise Development programs, we have support meetings where the women receive ongoing business coaching and can discuss any challenges they face in running their business. Our partnerships are one of mutual accountability; we agree to reporting requirements and have evaluation tools that measure the impact of our work, e.g. a before and after assessment to quantify what’s changed.

With all our projects we are extremely mindful to limit the western footprint in the community being impacted.

Where the funds go diagramHow are the funds allocated?

Supplying > 90% of funds received directly to projects – Hopes and Dreams keeps our administration fees below 10%.

For any Not-For-profit organisation to be sustainable long term, have proper infrastructure and growth for the organisation a percentage of funds received are usually allocated towards administration or running costs. The management team have implemented strategies to ensure we keep our administration charges to a minimum. We achieve this by having the commitment of various investors who support specifically for the purpose of covering administration costs (these funds go into a separate pool reserved for meeting this purpose); by getting volunteers involved and from generous value-in-kind sponsors.

With 90% -100% of your investment going directly to the field projects we are ensuring that your funds will get to the ones who need it most.

At Hopes and Dreams, we don’t think it is enough to make such a statement, we back this up with substantiation. We are prepared to disclose with our investors / donors how their money is spent, where it goes and what it is used for.
